Real Wedding

Do you love hearing about couples,  their story and what they go through planning their wedding?  Us too!  Meet the lovely Lori + Andrew…

How did you meet?

Andrew and I went to Primary School together. He then went to boarding school and spent a year on a pearl boat in Broome while I finished school in our home town, then I took off to the USA. We happened to end up back in our home at the same time and in the same circle – it took us a few months to get together as I didn’t think the perfect guy could possibly be interested in me and that perfect guy was SUPER shy and took his time!

Tell us about the proposal?
Andrew is an old school romantic and took me for a hot air balloon ride on our six year anniversary, I looked over the edge to see a huge “Will You Marry Me?” sign and looked back to find Andrew on one knee! Even better, he hired a photographer to capture everything.

Did you choose a wedding theme?
We didn’t really go with a theme for the wedding, we kept everything quite neutral with the ladies in navy and the guys in white linen shirts, but we jazzed it up with pink chinos for the guys and a paisley shirt for the groom. The venue we went with white and decorated with fairy lights and flowers.

How did you approach the planning process?
We were possibly the most laid back couple planning a wedding! We didn’t have too much of a strict plan however we did write a list at the very start and split the tasks into the month they needed to be done by. Did we stick to it? Not often! But it was good to have something to refer to.

That dress! Tell us everything!!
I decided long ago I wouldn’t spend thousands on a dress I would most likely wear once, I found the most incredible place that sells beautiful dresses for under 1K. Mine was only $495 delivered (yes, I ordered online and it fit like a glove – just had to have the hem and shoulders taken up as I’m a shorty). White Runway for any future brides, they do have showrooms if you want the experience of trying dresses on.

How did you decide on a venue?
We wanted to get married on our anniversary so had exactly a year from the proposal – that’s not really a heap of time when it comes to venues booking out. Living in Mudgee we are in wedding central so it made sense to get married here. We Googled, made a list, called them all for availability and rough price per head, then narrowed them down. We loved the style of Blue Wren from the start and then the fact the staff were so friendly and easy to work with just concreted they were the place for us.

What was your favourite moment from the day?
That’s a very hard question! I think the moment we were announced husband and wife and looked at each other in awe that we were actually married – then to look out to the crowd and see all your closest friends and family is a very special feeling.

What is the best piece of advice you received?
Enjoy every moment of the day because it will go so fast, SO TRUE!
